5.4 Personalisation and Recovery Key
Non-personalised accounts which currently have a Premium Account on them can be personalised to their users. Personalisations provide additional security because they create lasting bonds between users and their accounts. Players who have correctly personalised their accounts will always be able to get them back in case they lose access to them. Note that personalisations are never available on free accounts, even if an account has previously had a Premium Account on it.
a) How to Personalise Accounts
If an account is ready to be personalised, a button labelled "Personalise Account" will appear at the top of the account page. Clicking on this button opens up a form in which you will be asked to enter personal data such as your first ("given") and last ("Surname") name, date and place of birth, and nationality. Make sure to enter correct data, because personalisations that contain nonsensical entries are invalid and will not be accepted by CipSoft if new account data is requested. Once the entry has been confirmed a recovery key will be displayed. Write it down carefully on a piece of paper and store it in a safe place. Note that for reasons of security the recovery key will only be displayed once and it will not be sent by email, so you should really make sure you write it down!
Personalisations do not take effect until seven days have passed. During this period of time a warning will be displayed at the top of the account page to make sure the player is aware that a personalisation is taking place, and any data entered in the personalisation can be changed.
b) Why Should I Personalise my Account?
Personalisations provide additional security to your account. More precisely, personalisations offer the following advantages:
* Registered Ownership
Once you have successfully completed the personalisation you will be considered to be the one and only rightful holder of your account by CipSoft. If others should raise claims on your account, you can easily prove them wrong if the account is personalised to you.
* Recovery Key
Once you have successfully personalised your account you will receive a 20-digit recovery key. This key is very important, because players who have the correct recovery key can instantly re-register accounts to new email addresses by using the Lost Account Interface. For this reason the possession of a recovery key will effectively give you total control of the corresponding account.
Note: If you should ever lose your recovery key, or if you feel somebody else has managed to get access to it, you can request a new key by proving you are the rightful holder of the account. To do so send a letter to CipSoft via postal services. State your request and the name of your character in this letter and sign it. Also, include a photocopy of an official document with your first and last name, date and place of birth, and nationality on it. This is necessary to prove that the account is personalised to you. Any passport, identity card, birth certificate or driving licence will do. Please understand that for reasons of security CipSoft cannot accept faxes or scans sent as email attachments. If the data on the included photocopy matches the data of your account personalisation, CipSoft will send a new password as well as a new recovery key to the email address your account is registered to. If the data does not match, you will receive an email informing you that your request has been rejected.
It is a good idea to include a new email address that is not registered to a Tibia account yet in your letter. CipSoft will register your account to this new address and send your new password and recovery key there.
