War System on Open PvP
General definition
The war system on Open PvP has 2 functions:
1) It may be used as an additional game option. This use should have as little bearing on other players who do not want to fight wars as possible. As such, the war system will help provide statistical data about the wars, a systematic framework for the negotiations and a systematic way to assess and rate the outcome for highscores.
2) The system should also allow to be used in order to seek justice against those who deserve it. As such, the war system on Open PvP should function as an escalation to the skull system.
Supported motivation to use the war system
1) Players should use the war system for fun, to add some variety to their game experience and to find a new challenge. Additional motivation may be given through certain rewards and highscores / leader boards. However, the rewards must not bring abusable advantages over players who decide against using the war system.
2) Teams of players who have suffered wrong by other players may want to use the second function to seek justice / revenge.
Discouraged motivation to use the war system
1) Goals to permanently hunt someone off a server, to execute absolute rule and power over a community or to force your own rules upon a server is generally discouraged. It is especially not considered a wanted motivation to define ones own reward by the losses of the opponent. Therefore, maximizing your opponents losses is strongly discouraged.
2) Even if seeking justice is supported, the punishment should be limited. It is discouraged to define justice by the individual losses of a character, especially by a total destruction of an opponent. Justice should be limited to within the game. It is not accepted to be just if someone can not play the game anymore at all.
Starting conditions
1) As an additional game option, wars and winning conditions can be negotiated based on mutual agreement. This kind of agreement will allow all guilds to interact within the war system regardless of their team strengths. However, the possible rewards in highscores will differ depending on the team strengths and the fairness.
2) If certain conditions are met within the skull system between teams of players, one team may decide to declare an automated war against an offender or a team of offenders. In this use, the system will automatically define winning conditions and possible rewards for highscores.
Features that need changing
- Conditions for surrender / abilities to disband a guild during war
- Leaving conditions of members of war guilds during war
- Interference with wars by outsiders (3rd party characters)
New features that are needed
- The exact definition of the preconditions to a one-sided war declaration based on events in the skull system. This has to ensure that real neutral guilds or players may never be forced into such a war.
- A good system to judge war guilds and fighers for highscores.
- Fitting rewards for Open PvP war guilds.
- A system to allow war teams to be built out of more than just one guild per side (~alliances).
